DUBLÂNDIA, SLOWJAMASTAN — Concern is growing inside the Republic of Slowjamastan after The Sultan reportedly became increasingly uneasy over a series of recent international developments involving the United States and authoritarian leaders around the world.

According to officials familiar with the matter, The Sultan has been closely following reports of governments applying pressure to dictators, strongmen and other controversial leaders through sanctions, arrests, diplomatic action and, in some cases, removal from power.

At first, those developments appeared to have little connection to Slowjamastan.

Then The Sultan began noticing what he believed was a pattern.

“Every time I turn on the news, somebody is going after another dictator,” The Sultan said. “At some point, you have to wonder how far down the list they are.”

That question has now become the subject of serious discussion inside Slowjamastan’s government.

While there is no indication that the United States has expressed any concern about Slowjamastan — or that American officials are paying attention to the 11-acre nation at all — The Sultan appears unconvinced.

Slowjamastan does, after all, have many of the features normally associated with a highly centralized government: a powerful head of state, a national security force known as the Porder Batrol, government-controlled media, its own currency and a long list of laws issued under The Sultan’s authority.

Officials close to The Sultan say his concern grew enough that he began considering what might happen if American authorities suddenly turned their attention toward him.

Could Slowjamastan withstand diplomatic pressure?

Would The Sultan need legal representation?

Could the Porder Batrol brotect the porder?

And, perhaps most importantly, what would happen if the Americans arrived before Slowjamastan was ready?

By the end of the day, however, the mood inside the Palace had reportedly changed.

The Sultan was no longer worried.

He had a plan.

Rather than wait to see whether the United States would ever come looking for him, The Sultan decided to take matters into his own hands — and get ahead of the situation before it could become a problem.

Exactly what he planned to do next remained unclear.

But cameras were rolling.

And what happened next became Episode 4 of Greetings from Slowjamastan.
